💡 In Gestalt therapy, we place great emphasis on data. This includes all internal (our own bodily sensations) and external (environmental) data that is tangible, visible, palpable, and perceptible.
Why do we do this?
Because the interpretations we associate with certain situations are often far from reality.
🤔 "I feel that they don't like me" - when the data is simply that 🔎 they are not smiling. 🤔
I think I am afraid of someone, while on the data level, I just feel 🔎 bodily tension, which could also be from excitement.
It is often useful to associate interpretations with events, but it is worthwhile to move from the inside out. 🖇️ Connecting with our bodies, perceiving internal and environmental data, and only then drawing conclusions. This way, we develop a more direct connection with reality, which supports us in taking directions that benefit us.
